Where are our roots as Singaporeans?
Background information:
Singapore has its roots as an immigrant society. It all started in the year 1819 when Raffles landed in Singapore, turning it into a British trading post. People from China, India and the Middle East in particular came over here to live and work. It has been over 200 years. It begs the question, how many Singaporeans are still tied to their ancestral country of origin? Do we have a Singaporean identity?
